Tasting “The Luxury Review 2012” @ Metropolitan Pavilion

The Luxury Review is an invitation only press and media showcase featuring the world’s finest luxury brands. Champagne, signature cocktails, and hor d’ouevres were served throughout the evening.

Zero : The Luxury Review kind of reminded me of rich person’s Comic Con. Vendors were all aligned in their spaces trying to get your attention with new products and information. The advantage here was that there was an open bar all night so interacting with others came a little easier with some liquid courage ;)

While we RSVPd and received our confirmations, staff at the door didn’t really seem to be checking for names as many people were walking in and out very often and freely. Sometimes if you dress the part, people may assume you’re just supposed to be there.

VirGIN: If you’ve ever been to a show room floor and like Zero mentioned above, a comic book convention, then you would be familiar to the layout of the place. Lots of companies were on display so it was very easy to parooz all they eye candy while sipping a nice complimentary cocktail.

Zero : Because of the all the high name sponsors and hosts, almost ALL guests were nicely decked out in their finest attires and fanciest dresses. It almost seemed like everyone there worked for one of the companies presenting and it was just a big social work gathering.

I got this strange vibe that we somehow crashed a private shindig because it seemed as though everyone knew each other. But maybe I was just being paranoid from all the complimentary vodka.

VirGIN: Every now and then, the MC would come on mic and announce the unveiling of a new product. Since we came a little late, we probably missed some other reveals but the ones we saw were the electric car in the center of the venue -

And then they actually started up one of the motorcycles and reved the engine a bunch of times. If you weren’t paying attention at first you were looking for what was causing all the noise then -

Zero : With events like these, it could have easily turned into another run of the mill meet and greet but fortunately, the place had many entertaining distractions in the form of video games. And since we’re nerds, we basically ignored all forms of social functioning and stared at a screen for the remainder of the night.

VirGIN: Don’t forget, we did play some foose ball with some other people there !

Zero : So video games and booze. This was our night at The Luxury Review. We’re not big spenders like some of the people dressed themselves out to be, so we hung back, sipped drinks, and enjoyed shooting animals with plastic guns.
