About
We're nerds in the NYC nightlife going to clubs and getting rejected at the door. But eventually we get in.

Tasting the NYC night life scene one lick at a time. We bring the perspective of multiple reviewers so that means more tongues on your "party".

We believe that no venue is the same so we like to attend places more than once so you guys can learn about all the different flavors a party has to offer.

We also list events that we support or regularly attend in our "Taste THIS Party" post. There are always parties going on every night but these are the ones we want to go to.

We're hungry for parties and want to taste yours!

Tasting “Ritual” @ Three of Cups

Thursday April 31th, 2012

Music provided by: DJ Peate (Of 151 & 6’s & 8’s) and DJ Crazyfinger (Of 151.  Special appearances by Candyman.

*Please note we are not sure of the accuracy of these DJs.  This was posted on their website.

Ritual is a Thursday night rock party in the basement lounge of Three of Cups.  Their special “Alien Brain Hemorrhage” shot ran at $8 and they also had a beer+well shot for $6.

*  Yes there is an actual shot called Alien Brain Hemorrhage and this place serves it.

Here’s what our “Tasters” thought.  Click the Names to find out more about them.

Zero : Most parties and events seem to be happening at or around the Meat Packing district.  While most people would attest to these being the best places to be at night, we like to seek out new things and new venues.  We’re also not fond of the A,C,E line.  It’s such a bitch at night.  But I did hear about the Three of Cups’ specialty shot and I really wanted to taste it.

VirGIN:  Just so you all know ( because we made this mistake ) Three of Cups is also a restaurant.  If you want to go to the lounge, there’s a skinny stairwell in the back.  The outside entrance is also to the right of the place with jet black steps descending down into the basement.

Like so many of the clubs we’ve been visiting, Three of Cups has also taken on the red-bulbed lighting scheme.  For the lazy loungers, there are also very big, comfy, leather couches laid about.  It’s not a very large space, but it’s cozy, and kind of feels like someone’s basement party.  But their parents renovated, so it’s not damp and grungy.  But they added leopard wallpaper to the support beams.

Zero : Immediately I went up to the bar and ordered this so called “Alien something something” shot I’ve been hearing about.  It looks really cool ( I mean did you see the picture above ) but what did it look like in real life?  Not too far off surprisingly but obviously nothing like the glamor image.  Seems like there was less hemorrhaging going on in our shot.  Taste wise, it was really good actually but a $8 shot is not something we can have on a reoccurring basis.  Alien brains are safe for now.

SWIRL: I love good old rock and metal music so I was really excited when we walked in and Pantera’s “Cowboys From Hell” was playing.  Coincidence?  Probably not cuz we’re just such angels.  We got nothing on Durango Doug.

For awhile we really just sat on the couches, which were really squishy, and shot the shit while enjoying a really good playlist.

VirGIN:  You filled me in on when that couple stole the camera at Red Egg and took some pictures of their mouths.
Zero : Ha. RIP Red Egg.  Good times.
In addition to the “Alien” shot, they also had a beer and well shot deal for $6.  This is turning out to be my kind of place.  Several combos later, SWIRL is up and attempting to dance to Deftone’s “My Own Summer” - one of my favorite songs from high school.  I had to get up there with here.
SWIRL: I’m sure the metal heads sitting across from us were really confused as to what we were doing :)
VirGIN:  Like any low lit bar, expect a low lit bathroom.  But at least when you’re waiting for the potty, you can stare at a bunch of naked women on bicycles.
As it was time to head on out into the night, we gathered our things, and made more comments about how we really want to come back here again.  On our way out, we were greeted by one of the more stranger decorated set pieces Three of Cups had to offer.

Baby Juggalo crib?
