About
We're nerds in the NYC nightlife going to clubs and getting rejected at the door. But eventually we get in.

Tasting the NYC night life scene one lick at a time. We bring the perspective of multiple reviewers so that means more tongues on your "party".

We believe that no venue is the same so we like to attend places more than once so you guys can learn about all the different flavors a party has to offer.

We also list events that we support or regularly attend in our "Taste THIS Party" post. There are always parties going on every night but these are the ones we want to go to.

We're hungry for parties and want to taste yours!

Tasting The Crystal Method @ High Line Ballroom

Friday March 30th, 2012

Music provided by: The Crystal Method and DJ Enferno

Casio was having a special event this evening promoting a new line of keyboards.  DJ Enferno was on deck to demo the abilities of the tech and The Crystal Method were performing in support.  The event was by invite only and offered free drinks and free coat check.

*  Coincidentally a lot of Sith showed up.

Here’s what our “Tasters” thought.  Click the Names to find out more about them.

earlyBIRD : High Line Ballroom isn’t really a club but more of a venue where bands perform.  We weren’t sure about writing a review of the place but it seemed more like a party tonight than a concert performance.  Here’s our take.

Wow.  We arrived here at 9 pm and we were immediately let in.  This almost never happens.  In fact, there were already people there before us.  Not much but we weren’t the first ones there for once.  So everything was all smooth with checking in and receiving free party swag.  We cozied up to the bar and it was a really good night from that point on.

But here’s where our only problem with tonight’s party was: the audience.  Our actually, the lack of one.

You would think that a FREE show with The Crystal Method and FREE alcohol would have people lining up in droves.  Was this poorly advertised?  Are the Crystal Method that too far back in the memories of the 90s?  I’m not sure what happened here but the dance floor was pretty sparse, even when the infamous duo came on later in the night.

SWIRL:  So after consuming massive amount of free alcohol, and receiving free red glow sticks, we took to the front of the stage in fandom support of DJ Enferno’s opening set.  He was demoing Casio’s new keyboard line and doing some really cool mixes with it.  And looking like he was having a lot of fun too, also celebrating his 21st birthday.

His mixes were good for dancing to and we jumped around on our alcoholic energy bursts while crazily waving our mini light sabers at the guy.  The camera men seemed pretty amused by our moral support.

earlyBIRD : When The Crystal Method finally came on we were completely taken over by the electronic beats; and the alcohol was on full throttle.  SWIRL and I were going pretty nuts in the front row and jumping up and down constantly.

Sadly behind us, people simply stood and watched while casually sipping on their gin and tonics.  I can’t fault people for not digging it the way we did but where were all The Crystal Method fans?  Come on!

SWIRL:  After much massive amount of raging, their set ended and the alcohol high finally subsided.  DJ Enferno came back on the decks to spin some more but we were all partied out at that point.  People were still randomly standing around though.

earlyBIRD : Tonight was an interesting experience.  On one hand, we had a blast.  Hands down loved it.  The Crystal Method melted our brains and we probably burned off about 30 lbs worth of cheeseburgers.  But on the other hand, I couldn’t get that lingering feeling of “What the hell people? Why aren’t you moving? ” out of my mind.  It’s a weird contrast indeed.  It didn’t spoil the night but it’s just one of those things that get to you like the small hairs you can’t seem to brush off after getting a new hair cut.  Oh well.
