About
We're nerds in the NYC nightlife going to clubs and getting rejected at the door. But eventually we get in.

Tasting the NYC night life scene one lick at a time. We bring the perspective of multiple reviewers so that means more tongues on your "party".

We believe that no venue is the same so we like to attend places more than once so you guys can learn about all the different flavors a party has to offer.

We also list events that we support or regularly attend in our "Taste THIS Party" post. There are always parties going on every night but these are the ones we want to go to.

We're hungry for parties and want to taste yours!

Tasting “Dirty South” @ Santos House Party

Wednesday March 28th, 2012

Music provided by: Dirty South and Fareoh

Tonight’s show at Santos House Party was a secret performance for 18+ by Dirty South.  Attendees were instructed to email him, and a reply would be sent out the day of the event with information about the location.  As it turns out, if you RSVPd the day of, you didn’t get an email with the details.  Entrance was allowed for those who printed out the reply email with a plus one addition.  Coat check was $5 and a Bud Light ran at $7.

* Don’t go towards the white light !!!

Here’s what our “Tasters” thought.  Click the Names to find out more about them.

earlyBIRD : When you have a FREE secret show to attend, it makes sense to send me out since I go to everything pretty early.  8 o’ clock is such a good start time for me.  I get my moves in and I’m out of there.

I guess I was slacking tonight because we arrived at Santos at 7:30, a line around the block was already formed.  And so the waiting game began.  No worries though.  Guys behind me were going on and on about Ultra.  Kept me entertained.  We finally made it in an hour later though.  Yeesh.

We were greeted with a pat down and some interesting visuals.

An interesting thing I’d like to point out is that the stall in the bathroom had a little shelf next to the toilet.  Looks like it would be the perfect place for a magazine or some baking flour.

SWIRL:  Even though it was 8:30 when we got in, the DJ already had the crowd pretty pumped for the short time being.  I liked this a lot.

We checked our things ( dam $5 per item? ) and got in the middle of the dance floor.

The opening DJ was so good.  I didn’t know there was going to be someone before Dirty so I thought it was him.  A fellow party goer set me straight on this.  Everyone was really enjoying his set and was dancing pretty hard.  And it was only 9 pm !

But that’s when the trouble started…

earlyBIRD : Hmm…..so there are a lot of guys here….

SWIRL:  Yes that seems to be the case.

earlyBIRD : I see.  Oh well.

*Gets run over by a bro train ( when a long line of guys hold hands/lock arms and make their way to the front where the DJ is )

Oh Jesus! The sweat!

The guys were drenched in their own perspiration and it was constantly getting all over me.  They were rowdy.  Jumping all over the place ( as a big group ) and rubbing up all over my clothes.  I felt like I had run a marathon because of the amount of sweat that was covering me.  I did not expect this crowd tonight.

I mean, everyone was having a good time, which is turn makes me have a good time, but these bros were like slobbery dogs.  Yes they’re all excited and it’s kinda fun to play with them, but in the end, you really need to push them off, and wipe yourself down.

SWIRL:  Big slobbering dogs.  In tank tops, baseball caps, and sunglasses indoors.  Ew.

So we continued to dance our asses off and get completely engulfed by the crowd and the music.  Hard beams of light shined down on us and the strobe light went crazy for the big drops in the songs.

earlyBIRD : Things became even more intense when Dirty South finally got on the decks at 10.  It was so crowded we actually got pushed back by the bar.  Even there, it was still a lot elbow checks and constantly getting pushed aside.

2 girls behind me put on some raver gloves and provided a nice visual light show above my eyes.  I’m going to have to get those now!  But one of them did elbow me in the head…

Video of them HERE

SWIRL:  Not gonna lie,  I preferred the opening DJ to Dirty South.  The crowd definitely liked Dirty better as it got crazier and more crowded.  Something about his stuff though just sounded all the same to me.  It was good to go crazy to and jump around,  but I just had more fun actually dancing to Fareoh.

Because of this we decided to head out before his set finished at 12.  Rumors that Tiesto was going to be there were untrue.  An insider who stayed longer said he wasn’t there.

earlyBIRD : Interesting event.  We definitely got a good work out from jumping around and avoiding people stomping on our toes.  They did get squashed on many occasions though.  If you like a sweaty dance party with a Bridge and Tunnel like crowd, then this night was for you.  But for us, it’s gonna be a long shower afterwards.
