Tasting “The Electric Room”
November 12th, 2011
DJs - Julio Santo Domingo and Kieren Taylor
The Electric Room is a bar/lounge in the Dream Downtown Hotel.
Be on the list or get bottle service to get into this place. A beer was $11.

*I’m not seeing “Electric” in this picture but I can’t stop starting at the British flag.
Here’s what our “Tasters” thought. Click the Names to find out more about them.

Zero : I’m a little confused by this place. Do they want you to dance here or just lounge around and drink? If you look at the picture above, that space between the brown couch and the red couch is probably the closest thing to a dance floor and it’s not that big. Don’t get me wrong, SWIRL and I will dance in a bathroom stall if the beat is hot but I couldn’t imagine people really dancing so much here. The couches were very comfortable though so maybe that’s why people were just sitting, drinking and talking. The music was great and had that right mix of distortion, twang, and beats that made me want to down a whiskey, kick a bar stool, and rock out. Just wished other felt the same. We left around 2 am as the place filled with more people standing around holding their drinks. We’ll have to come back again to further investigate this dance-less conundrum.

virGIN: This place is located in the Dream Downtown Hotel but don’t go in through the front door. You’ll want to go to the left of the entrance and down what looks like a loading area for trucks. You’ll know you’re going the right way by the eclectic graffiti on the walls. Maybe it was just this night but I felt like were the only NON Italian tourists trying to get in here. Like any high class place the groups of guys were not permitted entry while the cute group of girls were immediately let in. Classic! When you’re so graciously allowed to enter, they stamp your hand with a black light reactive British flag. Very cool. Walk through the door and straight and make a right. If you hit the bathroom, make a left and flash the door man your new temporary hand tat. The actual Electric Room itself is not so big. Couches make up a majority of the place and small tables are lining the walls. I’m not sure, but there seemed to be a small little party going on behind the elevated DJ booth. I liked this place but like Zero, I also felt no one was really in the mood to dance and just wanted to shmooz.

SWIRL: *As heard from the girl standing next to me - “Let’s get out of here, no one is dancing, let’s go to MUMBLE MUMBLE MUMBLE…..” If you couldn’t tell, we were all in the mood to dance this night.
WHY WE WOULD COME BACK FOR SECONDS
- There is a very cool feeling of ELITE while being here.
- Although it’s simple, the black light activated hand stamp is a nice touch.
- I like a good rock and roll DJ and these guys delivered the goods.
WHY WE WOULD SEND IT BACK
- Getting in will not be so easy if you just show up and you’re a dude.
- Most likely all the couches will be occupied with table service attendees so expect to stand.
- Will someone please bust a dam move already ? !
